Welcome to Curragh Downs Homeowners Association!
Our neighborhood was established in 1973 by McKeon Construction, and is located in the unincorporated area of Sacramento County. It encompasses approximately 85 acres, divided into 144 lots, and includes public equestrian and hiking trails. In the beginning, when Fair Oaks was “rural,” many of the homes in our neighborhood sold as horse properties, hence the horse trails. Although you may still see a horse or two, the trails are now largely used for pedestrian access to the American River Parkway.
Our neighborhood’s name, Curragh Downs, is derived from its equestrian and geographic beginnings. The Curragh Racetrack was founded in the 1760’s to encourage the sport of horse racing in Ireland, and is located outside of Dublin. “Downs” is old English for open, high, grassy lands. All streets are named after famous race horses. Did you know that Riva Ridge was the champion 2-year-old male that won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes in 1971, and was Secretariat’s stable mate?
In the 1970’s, when Curragh Downs was being built, the Visage housing development across Hazel Avenue was a horse stable and the Phoenix Field housing development was an airport. About fifty percent of today’s homeowners are the original owners. Local schools are part of the San Juan School District. Earl LeGette is the Elementary school (1-3/4 miles); the Junior High school is Carnegie Intermediate School (2-3/4 miles); and Bella Vista is the High School (3 miles).
The neighborhood operates under a Homeowner’s Association governed by a Declaration of Protective Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (CCR's). We strive to maintain a safe, friendly, and beautiful place to live, and hope you agree that pride of ownership is evident throughout our community. The Association is responsible for enforcing the CCR’s, planning community events, and distributing the neighborhood newsletter (The Courier).
If you have any questions about the neighborhood or CCR’s, please contact the Association Manager or any Board member. For CDHA account or login information, please email curraghdowns@gmail.com. And welcome again!
Sincerely,
CDHA Board Members
